In a similar vein to the Sit down thread - something I always found/find annoying were the muttonheads who insist on warwhooping in every quiet moment like we all came to appreciate just how loudmouthed they could be. Now, whooping is fine when the band are balls out rocking the place down and you're really getting into it.
But during the perfect quiet moment of Stella Blue?

'it seems like all this life
was just a dream...'

WHAAOOOOOHOOOO!!!!

NO!! Shut the hell up!!

And all this time I thought it was only me emitting some kind of dickhead-I'm sorry-muttonhead attracting pheromone at concerts.

There was one inconsiderate bastard in particular who was at a Ratdog show a couple of years ago. Apparently he had spent the first set planted firmly at the bar because he didn't show up near the stage where we were until the second set, and when he did arrive, he was drunker than 30 dollars. He weighed every bit of 300 pounds (this isn't a prejudicial statement against the obese, but it is a prejudicial statement against inconsiderate bastards who don't give a damn about invading the space of others who paid the same ticket price to get in the door), and was staggering all over everyone around him. And true to form, he was yelling and hooting during Bob's solo acoustic material opening the set like he was going for the blue ribbon in the pig calling contest at the Billhilly County Fair. El Paso, The Winners, and Blackbird were all a wash. My wife was afraid she might have offended a lady standing next to her when she called him an asshole after he plowed into her, and when she apologized, the woman said, "Are you kidding? I just told him to get the fuck away from me!"

I feel ya.

I was at an Allmans show a few years back and was groovin' to the tunes close to the front, when all of a sudden some asshole who was so shitfaced he couldn't stand up straight pushed (rather violently) close to where me and my buddies were. He started dancing without any regard to where his arms and legs went. Then he started "singing" - more like Donna moaning, but worse. A few of us near him politely asked him to move a couple of times, but he refused, even after a good "move your F***ing ass, asshole!" After he hit me twice in the face with his hands, I gave up, and me and my buddies moved back. Yeah, we were a little distanced from the band, but that asshole was ruining the show for us.

ugh. people like that can seriously ruin a show.

Completely off topic, just wanted to let you know that I have recentley rediscovered a countryman of yours who doesn't make me regret that the Great Potato Famine didn't hit Scotland as well. Craig Ferguson is an outstanding talk show host/comedian/author/etc. who I need to pay more attention to. He has a talk show here that runs way too late for me, but what I have seen of his really impresses me. This came up during a recent episode of Bill Maher on HBO where Craig was a guest. Good stuff. Heartening to see that Scotland can produce more than just vast amounts of sheep methane.

I hear ya SDH - seen his show only a couple of times (due to the late hour as you noted). He is a great host, extremely funny monologues, just an allround hoot. Took me a few moments first time i saw his show to remember he played Drew Carrey's boss on the sitcom.

He also was the drummer for The Bastards From Hell, a London-based Punk band.

Well. I'm not sure how I should be taking this. Obviously you don't consider me and my measured contributions to this illustrious forum to be worthy of saving the Scots race from oblivion, to say nothing of the patient way in which I've to put up with your blethers on sundry matters, ye glaikit wee bauchle.

I admit "harvesting" the lingo from the following: http://www.elandea.com/parliamo.shtml

I must say I like "blootered" best. I guess it shows where our term "blotto" may have come from. I love language.

I loved seeing Stanley Baxter doing Parliamo Glasgow on television when I was a lad. Most television was broadcast from England and they just didn't talk like us! I don't suppose it ever made it over the Atlantic? 'Erra perra perrs on ra flerr ar'rerr...'

Sorry, the closest we got to Scottish through our TV sets was Scotty in Star Trek screaming "She cannah take no more cap'n!". And you wonder why we think of you as a cultural wasteland. I am trying to reverse that stereotype. You could do more to help me, though.

knucklehead at the LA forun drunk off his ass singing loudly to wharf rat. He then starts jumping up and down screaming, "where are we gonna go" pointing to the heavens - right as Garcia sings "I'll get up and fly away"

sad.

Now THAT i surely agree with!!!! Talk about being jarred out of one's inner transcendental moment, especially when said "muttonhead" is in close proximinity to one's own ears.

Also hated the "constant conversationalists" who never seemed to be there for the music, but only for carrying on endless conversation during the entire show. Wasn't that what part of the "Lot scene" was for?

Oakland Colliseum, in the middle of a deep, dark space...the guy next to me leaps to his feet and screeches - "PRIDE OF CUCAMONGA!!!!!"

JGB at Pauley Pavillion 91 or 92, some chucklehead screamed "SAINT STEPHEN!!!!" during "Lucky Old Sun"

Like the dude I had the serious displeasure of sitting next to in Richmond '85 who, during "High Time", insisted on screaming at the top of his lungs "I need more acid!!!". No, I thought, no, you don't. Well, apparently this thought became secondary to his sudden need to vomit on my shoes. Boy, was I lucky.

In this same vein, I always thought it odd that some of the biggest cheers from an audience would come after some feedback through the PA.
"Wow, dude, remember that static explosion 3:13 into Sailor in Shorline? It was immense. I've got a killer sbd of it if you want."
Somewhere out there is a "Best Of" cd someone has compiled featuring feedback through the years.

Try sitting between those TWO TV's I mentioned. Talk about pissed! It was seriously like I could feel the cathode ray tubes literally sucking all the fine electricity the band and us created together.
